Just when you thought the Nanny State bureaucrats couldn’t possibly get any stupider, along comes the FDA’s proposed ban on alcoholic beverages with, get this, caffeine, in them.
Rum and coke. We’ve been drinking this concoction since coca cola was invented. No harm other than a few brain cells.
Duh! Get a real job.
Caffeine, Alcohol Drinks Targeted – WSJ.com.
The Food and Drug Administration is taking aim at caffeinated alcoholic drinks, saying it will pull them off the market unless manufacturers can prove the beverages are safe to drink.
On Friday, the FDA sent letters to nearly 30 companies, giving them 30 days to provide evidence that their drinks don't pose health or safety risks. The FDA hasn’t approved the use of caffeine in alcoholic beverages, and companies might have to show that experts generally think mixing caffeine and alcohol is safe for consumers.
The fast-growing segment includes United Brands Co.’s Joose, and Phusion Projects LLC’s Four Loko, both flavored malt beverages. “We are taking a look at the legal basis for the marketing of the products,” Joshua Sharfstein, the FDA’s principal deputy commissioner, told reporters.
A United Brands spokesman said it hadn’t received the FDA letter and declined to comment. Phusion Projects didn’t respond to requests for comment.

If you had any doubt that the government of California (and probably a few other states as well) is just a bunch of thieves, then here’s definitive proof. Californication, in other words.
Also note the incompetent collusion of the Bank of America in this scheme. Since the bailouts, you can’t really consider banks as being independent of the government; instead, they’re becoming just another means for the government to take your property and snoop on your private business.
Those of you living in California might want to consider living somewhere else, given the culture of thievery in the name of government.
Not-So-Safe-Deposit Boxes: States Seize Citizens’ Property to Balance Their Budgets – ABC News.
San Francisco resident Carla Ruff’s safe-deposit box was drilled, seized, and turned over to the state of California, marked “owner unknown.”
“I was appalled,” Ruff said. “I felt violated.”
Unknown? Carla’s name was right on documents in the box at the Noe Valley Bank of America location. So was her address — a house about six blocks from the bank. Carla had a checking account at the bank, too — still does — and receives regular statements. Plus, she has receipts showing she’s the kind of person who paid her box rental fee. And yet, she says nobody ever notified her.
“They are zealously uncovering accounts that are not unclaimed,” Ruff said.
To make matters worse, Ruff discovered the loss when she went to her box to retrieve important paperwork she needed because her husband was dying. Those papers had been shredded.
And that’s not all. Her great-grandmother’s precious natural pearls and other jewelry had been auctioned off. They were sold for just $1,800, even though they were appraised for $82,500.

The bureaucrats in the California Air Resources Board have come up with another doozy: “Advanced” window glazing to keep vehicles cooler, but stops radios, cell phones, GPS and other wireless devices from working.
How about just use window tinting like we do here in Texas? Works pretty darn good, no wireless devices stop working, and no bureaucratic order is required. The sun takes care of enforcement.
We need some chlorine to clean out the California gene pool.
‘Cool’ car rules could affect radios, phones | detnews.com | The Detroit News.
California’s latest requirement for the auto industry — advanced window glazing to keep vehicles cooler — could prevent drivers from making phone calls, listening to satellite radio or using garage door openers.
It also could lead Chrysler Group LLC to stop selling its soft-top convertible Jeep Wrangler in the Golden State. The standard for sunroofs is so tough that automakers warn the glass would have to be “effectively black.”
The California Air Resources Board has adopted a new “Cool Cars” regulation ordering advanced glazing of windows to block the sun’s heat and reduce the need for air conditioning. Windows must be coated with microscopic specks of metal oxide to reflect sunlight.
Advocates say the requirements will reduce the temperature inside vehicles, saving gasoline and cutting greenhouse gases.
